Our Sponsored Missionary in Ireland
In 2013 Grove wanted to increase its global support connections and reached out to Alison Gilmore through Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Today, Grove provides financial support and prayer for Alison and her missionary work in Ireland.
Since 2011, Alison Gilmore has been serving as a missionary of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church at the East Belfast Mission (EBM) in Northern Ireland. East Belfast Mission offers a variety of initiatives to the local community through homeless support services, children and youth programs, a worshiping congregation and community counseling services. Alison works as a mental health therapist in the counseling center at EBM. The counseling center reaches out to those in need of emotional healing resulting from years of conflict in Northern Ireland.
Alison was born and grew up in Northern Ireland. She attended secondary school in Belfast and graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree from Stranmillis University College in 1996. After graduation, she worked in ministry to college students as a Campus Worker with IFES (International Fellowship of Evangelical Students) in Northern Ireland.
Alison said “it was not until my first semester at university that I felt the deep, overwhelming, and pursuing love of Jesus. He filled my deepest need and became my all. Becoming actively involved in the Christian community at university, those four years were transformational and life changing.”
Alison and Britt Gilmore
Alison met Britt Gilmore, a native of Florida and a volunteer youth worker at East Belfast. They married in 2002 and came to the United States in 2003. Alison worked in the admissions office of Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina during part of the time that Britt was in seminary at Duke University. The couple moved to Orlando, Florida in 2005, where Britt had a pastoral appointment. Alison received a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Asbury Theological Seminary in Orlando and worked as a student intern in St. Luke’s Community Counseling Center, a ministry of St Luke’s United Methodist Church. Britt graduated from seminary and served as an associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Orlando, Florida.
Alison is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Orlando.
Britt serves as the Minister of Outreach and Community within East Belfast Mission. The Gilmore’s have three children, Ellie (10), Emily (7) and Jake (3).
Future Thoughts for This Partnership
Ellen Pickell, Grove Missions Chairperson, has these thoughts about how she would like to see this program grow:
Establishing a “Sharing Partnership” with Alison is essential. This can be accomplished by opening up the lines of communication between Grove Church and Alison through prayer, correspondence, pictures, cards and emails. We are sharing how Grove, through the spirit of God, is serving the local community in mission. In return, we learn how God is speaking through Alison and her ministry to those in need at the East Belfast Mission in Northern Ireland. Through this “Sharing Partnership” we can all learn from each other how “Living for Jesus” does Change Lives.
Look for opportunities to join in making this vision happen through Grove UMC. To learn more about Allison please check out her profile at the Global Ministries website.
