Community Garden – Looking for A Few Green Thumbs
Grove’s Community Garden raises fresh vegetables and delivers them to the West Chester Food Cupboard in West Chester and the Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown. Without gardens like ours and the volunteers who support them, many of the less fortunate in our community would not have access to fresh produce.
The garden started in June, 2015, when seventeen volunteers came together one rainy evening to build four raised beds and fill each bed with topsoil. During the summer and fall, they planted, watered and harvested over 117 pounds of produce. The following year, Grove’s volunteers delivered 293 pounds of fresh vegetables to the local food cupboards. Presently we have eight raised beds and our goal in 2017 is to give over 300 pounds of produce to the food cupboards.
Our enclosed garden is called “Elmer’s Garden” in honor of a beloved member who helped start efforts to deliver food to Chester County residents years ago and our memories of Elmer inspire us to continue that work.
Please, prayerfully consider becoming a part of Grove’s Community Garden Ministry.
