GROW Team – Grove Reaching Out in Witness – Video
Video about the GROW Team at Grove
The GROW team at Grove is also known as the Evangelism team. The meaning of GROW is Grove Reaching Out in Witness. Our goal is to reach out, invite, bring people to church, and to enable the Holy Spirit, working through Grove Church, to result in changed lives as we are “Living for Jesus, Changing Lives”
The Grow team is about reaching out beyond the walls of our church to connect with people who are not already part of our fellowship. Then when we have visitors at Grove, we are also working to make them feel welcome and to encourage them to return.
We believe that Grove is a welcoming and caring congregation, and we want to extend that hospitality to every visitor who walks through our doors. To do that, we staff the Welcome Center and offer gift bags to visiting adults, as well as gift bags for children in families who visit. At the Welcome Center we are there to answer questions and to find out more about our visitors. We also schedule Greeters for the three worship services. These greeters are there at the door to warmly welcome everyone who comes in. They are also watching for visitors and are ready to help people with questions about where to go for Sunday School or how to find the bathrooms! And one more thing – we have a schedule of people who will watch for visitors during coffee hour, and make a point of talking to anyone who seems not to know anyone.
The Grow team intentionally reaches out to the community to find people who are looking for a church home. To do that, we participate in the West Chester Chili Cook Off in October, handing out hundreds of flyers (with our chili recipe and church information) to those who visit our booth. This year we even had Ben Franklin (Grove’s Rob DeVitis) there to greet the crowd.
We also hold events at Grove where the community and our neighbors are invited. These events are advertised to the community through means such as yard signs, banners at our church, newspaper articles, and sometimes even door to door distribution of door hangers with event information. These events are the Ice Cream Fest at the end of the summer, Blessing of the Animals in the Fall, and Trunk or Treat in October. This year at Trunk or Treat we had over 120 children parading through our parking lot gathering treats from decorated trunks. Most of those children were not from Grove, so this is one of our major outreach efforts.
At Christmas, we have lawn signs that are printed with the Christmas Eve service schedule, available for members to place on their lawns or along the roadside. To make our name more visible, we have Grove T-shirts and magnets available for sale to our congregation from time to time.
The GROW Team would like to suggest two fun ways the congregation can be part of our Welcoming efforts –
First, is the Rule of 3. Please refrain from talking to other members of the congregation for the first 3 minutes after the service or event. Talk to those you don’t know or people you know are guests. It takes guests about three minutes to exit a church after worship. By following this rule, we can make sure someone has made contact with visitors before they leave.
Circle of 10 – Greet anyone, member or guest, who comes within ten feet of you. Make a special effort to greet the people you don’t already know within your Circle of 10. This would be at church events, coffee hour, in the hallway, etc.
We welcome anyone who would like to join our team, either for one special event or for becoming a part of our monthly meetings. Indicate your interest on the back of the Worship Registration form in your bulletin. Or, stop by our Welcome Center!
