Grove United Methodist Church Asbury Hall Renovation & Elevator Addition Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
1. What are the benefits of the project?
The project is all about installing an elevator to allow complete access to the 2nd floor and basement and refurbishing Asbury Hall. It goes without saying that Grove can better serve Gods calling through meeting the mobility needs of all congregation members and visitors. Asbury Hall will be used to better serve the social needs of our congregation and visitors through a warm and inviting multipurpose space offering year-round use. In addition, it is expected to allow us to expand ARISE worship services, our Drama ministry, and our youth ministry activities (See Building Project FAQ on the website).
2. Why are we having a capital campaign?
A capital campaign will unite us around a faith- and prayer-based vision of Groves future as a part of Gods ministry. That vision includes providing a first-class facility for ministry and preserving the churchs financial assets to support our ministry far into the future.
3. Didnt we have a capital campaign before?
Yes. In fact there have been two campaigns since the mid-1990s. We are pleased to have learned a great deal from these campaigns and we will carry that learning through this exciting new project.
4. Does Grove really need my help?
YES. Your church always asks for a commitment of your time, talent and financial resources. That will not change. The question now is, Do you personally need to help Grove in a special way to move forward with this project and future ministry? This campaign is intended to help you answer that question.
5. Why are we spending church funds for a campaign consultant?
We decided to retain a consultant because a capital campaign is not part of Groves regular ministry. We lack the in-house expertise, and the time, to devise and organize a campaign that can achieve our spiritual and financial goals. Our consultant will supply the expertise and organization that is needed to properly communicate the vision and opportunity that this endeavor offers us. We have negotiated with a consultant for coaching of our Leadership at a reduced fee from a full service consultation.
6. How can I help support the campaign?
Pray for Grove, this campaign, the congregation, and the vision. Agree to help with your time and talent when you are asked. Make a financial commitment. Above all, participate in all that God will bring to Grove with these changes!
7. What is our goal and timing? (pledges will over a three year giving period)
As was mentioned during the planning phase of this project, it is hoped that a minimum of $500,000 (1/3rd of total cost) will be raised as a faith pledge given over three years. Groundbreaking for the building is planned for early June 2009. It is hoped that all pledges will be offered by the end of June 2009. The more we raise through faith-giving, the less we will need to finance.
8. Should I give if I already tithe?
Your tithing should continue normally. Giving toward this campaign should be considered sacrificial giving above and beyond normal tithing. Sacrificial giving implies personal reflection, reassessment, and reallocation, and is at the very heart of Christian stewardship. Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.
9. Can other assets be contributed?
YES, and they are welcomed in any form. God understands the heart of the giver, and Grove is equipped to handle any form of donation.
10. Can I change my pledge if my financial situation changes?
YES. This is not a binding pledge but a faith-based commitment. God knows best where our finances should be focused.
