Men find a welcoming place at Grove
At Grove we have a wide variety of activities, missions and committees that men might find interesting. Here are only a few examples:
Adult Sunday School Class (9:30AM)
The Bible Study for Today’s World adult Sunday school class studies the Bible and other topics using books or study guides. In the past we have studied things like: The Upside-Down Kingdom by Donald Kraybill, as well as world religions and other relevant Biblical literature. Check out more of the learning experiences that are available.
Adult Forum (formerly The Christian Perspectives on Contemporary Issues) adult class studies complex current issues and seeks ways to respond and act on newly informed understanding. This popular multi-month series involves inquiry, discussion and learning. Check out more details on Adult Forum.
Church and Society Committee
This committee is not exclusively for men, but men and women enjoy serving on this team. Over the years, Grove United Methodist Church has been identified within the Greater West Chester area as a congregation of believers who have a concern for the needs of God’s people. Check out more on Church and Society and the programs they support.
Missions Work Team
The Missions Team supports many outreach organizations that support our local community, our country and our world. The Missions Team is open to both men and women.
Grove Music Ministries
Do you enjoy playing and instrument? Have you enjoyed a lifelong love of singing or dramatic performance? At Grove many adults of all ages participate in the many opportunities offered by our active music ministry. Here are just a few of the many to choose from:
- The Tabernacle Choir— The Tabernacle Choir participates at the 9:30 AM worship service from September through May. They also joyfully sing at other special services and events.
- Pieces of One— The music for the 11am Arise Service on Sunday morning is provided by Grove’s Praise Band, Pieces of One. They play musical arrangements by modern Christian artists and often share their talents and ministry at various Grove Church and Eastern PA Conference events.
- Mother’s Day Ensemble— Each Mother’s Day a group of men join together to sing an anthem to honor the women in the congregation.
Grove’s Tech & Sound Team
Grove’s Tech & Sound Team is an important component of worship at Grove. The Tech Team, open to both men and women, is responsible for putting together the visuals (song lyrics, liturgy, videos, etc.), running the screens, podcasting the weekly sermons for our website, and engineering the sound during all of the worship services at Grove. The Tech Team is primarily involved during the media-driven ARISE! Service at 11:00 AM, although they are often needed in other events that occur at the church as well.
Worship Ministry: Usher Teams
Ushering is a vital part of our church. Ushers represent the church in a very visible way by welcoming members and visitors, and helping the service run smoothly. We are always looking for new ushers, so we would love to have you join the team!
The Grove Sports League has some kind of sport taking place every month of the year and provides athletic opportunities for folks of all ages and abilities. This is for all who just want to play sports together in a Christian environment. Among the current opportunities are basketball, softball, and Co-ed Vollyball (Fall & Spring). Come on out and join us anytime through the year!
Home Improvement Ministries
Although not strictly limited to the male gender, Grove has lots of opportunities for those who are handy! Among the activities that always need people with a willingness to swing a hammer are:
- Good Works Days
- ASP (Appalachia Service Project)
- Mission trips dedicated to helping those who have suffered damage after a natural disaster like Hurricane Sandy or Katrina
- Trustee Workdays
- And More!
Cooking with Gas
Like most churches, Grove has a fully functional kitchen to accommodate feeding large groups. If you enjoy cooking and putting together large meals there are plenty of opportunities to get involved! There are pancake or continental breakfasts from time to time, and our monthly Community Dinner is always looking for more hands on deck.
The Nurture Team is comprised of men and women, and serves our congregation in many ways including hospital visits, home communion and visits to elderly and home bound members. One reason men are especially valued on the Nurture Team is that a man who is in the hospital or a Nursing Home often appreciates a visit from another man.
